The North Magnolia Avenue Siege And Many Questions ???

A husband and wife were arrested after an 11 hour standoff at their rented Monrovia home late Wednesday 9/24/08.

The wife allegedly threatened Monrovia police officers and discharged a firearm in the house Wednesday morning when officers arrive to investigate a report of threats made by her against a workers compensation agency

According to public information officer Dick Singer this started Tuesday when the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department came to the home to serve an eviction notice and the woman refused to open the door telling deputies she had firearms in the house and displaying a shotgun to them.

Questions:

Why would the Deputies walk away from a situation that seemed to have the potential of violence to themselves or others without notifying the MPD of their encounter with the woman and if not why not?

If the MPD was informed of the Sheriff’s encounter why would they not investigated the situation in order to asses the mental state of the woman and her possible danger to the community?

PIO Dick Singer made statements that would indicate the MPD had been informed of the LASD’s encounter with the woman or how else would he have known at that time?

Maybe the LASD was watching the news broadcast and called to share the experience their Deputies had with the woman the day before?  I don’t think so!

Were the MPD officers who responded Wednesday made aware of the woman’s Tuesday encounter with the LASD for their safety and the communities safety?

Were bad Command decisions made by the Chief and City Manager regarding this situation?

The City Council needs to ask for a full investigation of this incident and ask for policies to be instituted to make sure matters like this are dealt with differently in the future.

  • Nice post, I wish fcblog was up and running again as it raised questions for me too.

Variations of the story float about. The city version is full of oddities as you well point out.

The full investigation is rhetorical as you know the city official position is not to address what is raised in blogs. Look at Monrovia Mom’s recently and others who have raised issues before the city. You get a perfunctory thank you for your time and sent on your way.

  • The city will never admit screwing up or wrong doing so don’t expect them to.

Our job is to point out their actions or lack of action in order to keep the community informed and thinking about weather they will re-elect the council members that are allowing things to continue in a manner that is not in the community’s best interest.

The Sheriff’s team that serves evictions are 2 guys. When they come upon something like this they are required to report to their Sergeant. They work out of the Court Services Unit. Instead of being deputies out of Temple or Altadena, they work out of Pasadena Courthouse, in this instance. Since it takes a lot to get deputies out of the surrounding stations they are required to report the issue to a local PD if one exists. LASD notified MPD and they assisted.

Dick Singer is a peach. He really makes the city look great, doesn’t he. If he and Ochoa were things of the past, who would would we blame for the bad image? Oh, silly me. We still have the Dynamic Douche bags, Rob and Tom.
