Monrovia Moms Verbally Spank City Hall
A group of ladies who have been referring to themselves around town as the Monrovia Moms attended Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Monrovia School Board Member and Monrovia Mom, Clare Chesley, addressed the council as a community member with various concerns about the conduct of the Council and Police Chief toward the community.
Some of the key concerns raised were Public Safety, keeping the community informed of dangerous conditions, lack of concern for the merchants, caring more about developers than the community, the councils bad treatment of people who speak out about the way the city is dealing with the community and the possible unintended consequences’ to some segments of the community through the “Gang Injunction” that the city is currently seeking court approval for.
It was a long and well deserved “Laundry List” delivered to the council and in case the council was asleep at the wheel they should have recognize that it came from the Monrovia Moms even thought it was delivered by Clare Chesley.
I was not impressed with the council’s comments after Public Comment was closed and watching the Monrovia Moms reactions I got the distinct impression that they were less than impressed themselves with the response and lack thereof.
Was this a one time comment to the council? Was this was part of a larger politically motivated agenda by the Monrovia Moms? If this was part of a larger agenda what would be the benefit to the community? How much real change might occur or would it still be business as usual with a different group of players?
Time will tell! I’ll cover this in greater depth in the near future.
