Mountain Lion Attack at 700 Block Norumbega Drive
I received this email from a neighbor on 4/20/08
Hi Everyone,
I heard a chilling story yesterday from the father of one of my daughter’s classmates.
He let his dog (golden lab, I think) out to go to the bathroom about 11:30 PM on Thursday night and shut the door behind her. Soon thereafter, he heard a cry that sounded like one of his children but it was coming from outside. When he looked out the kitchen window, he saw that a mountain lion was attacking his dog and was getting ready to drag her over the fence. He had a baseball bat handy so he ran outside and started to beat on the mountain lion and managed to scare it away. He spent the night in the animal emergency room and his dog had surgery yesterday. He said the whole thing happened in about 20 seconds and that if he had not acted so quickly, this story would have had a very sad ending. Beware, they are out and about!

A neighbor’s son saw Mountain Lion last week during the day between houses on the north side of Norumbega in the 700 block while he was walking their dog.
If anyone else knows of any additional attacks or sightings here in Monrovia please post a response.

thank you so much for update!
Update:
Mountain Lion. On April 17, at 11:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 Block of Norumbega regarding a mountain lion that attacked a 75-pound dog. The resident stated the mountain lion was trying to drag his dog off when he struck the lion with a garden rake. He said the very large mountain lion dropped his dog after being hit with the rake and leaped over the west fence in his backyard. Fish and Game was notified and will attempt to track the mountain lion. The dog was taken to an animal
hospital for its injuries.
I live about halfway up Oakglade Drive which is just outside Monrovia Canyon Park. On Sunday, 4/27 we had a Mountain Lion that appeared to be resting in the street (very unusual behavior) about 9:30 pm. Monrovia police chased him/her off with a beanbag shot (as they often do with bears). The lion headed west toward Ridgeside Drive. Those are observed facts, I also heard (but don’t know this to be true), that the lion was a different one than has been seen in this area before (we had another sighting on 9/11/07). He certainly looked bigger to me than the 9/11 lion. Hi behavior was odd and there was speculation that he may have been suffering from smoke inhalation from the San Gabriel fire. He certainly moved extremely fast after the bean bag shot.
