Arcadia police shot and killed a mountain lion Wednesday night around 8:00pm in the backyard of a home in Arcadia. The 140-pound female mountain lion had just killed a dog and charged responding Arcadia police officers who were forced to shot and kill the mountain lion. This was the second time police officers in the foothill cities have been forced to kill a mountain lion to protect themselves and residents form harm in the last two months. Monrovia Police were forced to shot a mountain lion under similar circumstances in September of this year.
It’s becoming clear that we can co-exist with some wildlife but we cannot co-exist with the large predators such as mountain lion and it is only a matter of time before someone looses a child to one of these predators. They are ranging further into our neighborhoods; they have been spotted as far down as Foothill Blvd. with regularity.

Thanks to the untiring efforts of a Monrovia resident, John Jogminas, who would not stand for the Fire Chief endangering his Neighborhood and City because of his Politics.
John Jogminas was willing to stand up to the BULLIES on the City Council and Fire Chief, taking their abuse, name calling and suggestions that he was wrong and didn’t know what he was talking about.
Councilman Tom Adams who is going to run for Mayor next year was the worst of the bunch the Biggest BULLIE. He likes to play word games and twists the facts to suit his own agenda. His belief is that anyone who disagrees with his heavy handed treatment is an idiot and should crawl away and die.
Well in the end our POT-BELLIED Fire Chief waddled out of the Kitchen at the Fire Station long enough to be told to clean up the Wilderness Preserve property at the top of Highland PL. where it was dangerously close the homes.
It’s ashamed that community members have to be BULLIED by their own City Council in order to have Public Safety put ahead of Politics.
Once again thanks to John Jogminas the Fire Chief has done what he should have done in the first place instead of leaving the community at risk for months in order to win Political favor. As long as Christopher Donovan is Fire Chief in Monrovia the community will always be at a greater risk than it would normally be because of his Politics.

I was just informed that the Arcadia Police Department will no longer participate in the Foothills Special Enforcement Team (FSET) a regional special weapons team compromised of Arcadia, Glendora, La Verne, and Monrovia Police Departments.
I was informed the major reason for this move was the Mishandling of the North Magnolia Avenue Siege where the City of Monrovia placed Public Image above Public and Police Officer Safety
Our Police Officers don’t have any say in this matter but the Arcadia Chief of Police does and he made the right choice by not being willing to place his Officers in harms way again for the sake of Politics in Monrovia. Read the post below this post for more information.

An email received from a former MPD officer with a lot of ties within the MPD gives an account of the North Magnolia Avenue Siege that answers some of the questions and supports some of the speculations in my Original Post about this subject.
The following is from the email:
”I know what you mean about all the hectic stuff going on in Monrovia. A shining example is the hostage situation that went down the other week. I heard it was a total cluster. Apparently it got so bad that Continue Reading »

On September 2007, the City of Monrovia assumed responsibility for brush inspections on unimproved land in our foothills. Since then, the risk of brush fire has never been greater for those living adjacent to the City owned Wilderness Preserve. Instead of the Fire Department clearing the land, The City is utilizing ordinance 8.14.030 to force land owners living next to the preserve to clear the land 200 feet from their homes. Ordinance 8.14.030 requires all residential land owners to establish and maintain defensible space on their properties, and, as hereafter provided, on adjoining private and public properties. The Fire Department under City direction is also threatening residents with fines up to $5,000 for non-compliance. The justification for this being “the structure poses the threat, not the brush on the vacant lot” and “Unimproved Property owners have zero brush clearance responsibility”. To make matters worse, the Monrovia Fire Department has announced that the City of Monrovia is 100% compliant with this ordinance, even though the brush adjacent to many of our homes has not been cleared in over a year.

A car jumped the curb on the east side of Myrtle Ave. in the 500 block.

The car was pulling into a parking spot when the elderly woman driver with a large cast on her left leg was not able to stop in time to keep from jumping the curb, striking a heavy city bench that was bolted to the sidewalk and smashing into the window of the recently opened Irish Gardener Shop.
